Tuck vs. Cornell (TMO)

I got offers from both Tuck and Cornell(TMO).  Cornell gave me 30k scholarship (I forgot to apply for Tuck scholarship).

Background:

Got two MS degrees from Cornell 5 years ago (both in engineering).

Have been working for a top tech company in the US for 5.5 years.

I'm thinking about changing to the finance industry.

Eventually, I will go back to China.

Cornell:  cheap and short time. (this is important for me since I'm not young any more). I'm not sure if the 12 month program is long enough for my career switch.

Tuck:  higher ranking. The two year program is supposed to be good for career switcher. The cost is so damn high.

xdjm, please help me make decision.

thanks

Were i you, I would choose cornell. Cornell is famous in investment management and there are plenty of on-campus recruiting opportunites, but the one year program without the internship may be a drawback for career switcher. Tuck is not well-known in finance industry though it has a strong alumni network in the street. Another problem of Tuck is its famous close-knot network. I have a family member graduated from there. The international students are not that well treated there. You may clarify that with the people who had experience at there and are willing to tell you the truth.

I vote for Tuck.

Bear in mind that u r a career-switcher, and the most important thing for MBA is placement after graduation.

In terms of job placement, Tuck is undoubtly better than Cornell.

So i think the money and time that u r going to invest will worth it.

My two cents.

I heard that Cornell is good for career switchers to finance.

If LZ wants to go back to China, Cornell is much better. Tuck is much less known in China.

zjmzjm, congratulations! Choice is always a tough but happy problem. I don't know too much about the one-year program at Cornell, which is undoubtedly a great school too. Is it the program of financial engineering?

If you choose Tuck, you are rest assured that you can switch to finance area after graduation as long as the US economy remains good. Tuck has very strong tie with the wall street. Finance is such a borad area that you have to specify your interest. Certain finance positions are more suitable for younger people than the older (above 30's here). You will probably rethink your career goals after you get into MBA. You will still have choice and leeway to shift if you choose a school strong in general management. More importantly, you will benefit from Tuck's alumni for life long.
