NOTE: The following are the personal opinions from someone on BW forum: Wharton, Chicago and Columbia are the three biggest feeders to investment banks, period. There are plenty of important differences in the schools if you want to dig deeper. Very quickly: Wharton - biggest, best overall rankings (gen'ly top 3), best known all around. Chicago - next best overall rankings (gen'ly top 5), most influential & famous academic finance school (Wharton & Chicago are always ranked #1 and 2 in finance rankings), flexible curriculum, most quantitative. Columbia - generally ranked top 7, newest of the three to get top tier status, has done very well taking advantage of its NYC location, so for example its IB placement is stellar even tho it is not necessarily the "academic temple" of finance that Chicago is (that kind of high finance is really more relevant for buy side, not IB), known for being international, cosmopolitan, having a high % of females. NYU - I would use as a backup for these others. Generally ranked top 10-15. Finance is certainly its strong suit, and I imagine its IB placement is decent (hard to know though because they don't publish the numbers), being in NYC certainly helps, but overall as a B school it doesn't have the prestige factor that W/Chi/Col do (and some say its part-time program is better regarded than its full-time). |
