1. 自己添加行;2. 很多人问过这个问题,我也没有标准答案。建议问问adcom. 3. 你说得太对了,既然没有离开,也不存在reason for leaving.

Suncola:

I heard that few mainland applicants are admitted directly into Columbia, more chinese students applied from US or other Countries. Does that mean Top b schools put a higher weight on international exposure or they think work quality of other countries is higher than that of China?

To Redwavezheng:

To answer your 2nd question: I don't think so. I think usually international applicants know how to pitch AdCom to get into b school, while local applicants tend to make essays in a local way, hard to be fully understood by AdCom. As long as this can be improved, international/local background should not be a problem.

About the 1st one, number of Chinese applied from abroad is about the same with that of ppl from mainland in the last two years. (my personal statistic, not official)

Moreover, I don't think this would affect your admission. AdCom picks ppl they like and think could fit in the school. That's all. Good luck!

Thanks for your kindly explanation.

2more questions:

The good location give Columbia an advantage and does that mean for same level business school Columbia will be more selective?

How to define international exposure? Do you think a UK master and more than 1 year Local MNC experience (WW Headquarter in Beijing) could give me enough "international exposure" for sake of application.

Thanks a lot!!!

1. Columbia is more selective than most of the others, based on the admission rate published. But I don't quite understand what you mean by same level. Usually low admission rate means "selective". When same amount of ppl want to apply, less ppl got admitted to CBS than other schools. Location advantage is one thing helps CBS, just as how ranking helps Wharton, alumni network and teaching help HBS, silicon valley helps Stanford.

2. You yourself decide if your international exposure is enough or not. Ask yourself if you are ready for MBA, instead of me. Many ppl without any experience abroad or at MNCs were admitted to great schools. Very hard to quantify the admission creteria. Guess no one could give an accurate 1 to 10 rating abt how successful you would be in application.

To be honest, all of the above is not really relevant to your application since you have done your school selection. For CBS I would really recommend early decision and deadline is coming - Only abt one month to go. I wish you have almost done with your essays and recommendations now and hopefully you can finish your second review by the end of Sept. All the best and hope I could help once you get admitted.

Application Review Period BeginsDecision Period (once a complete Application goes under review)Application Deadline
January 2008
Accelerated MBA Program

Suncola:

Please justify my understanding.

For international applicants, only two options:

1. Early Decision: Deadline: Oct,10,2007 (one question here: If i take GMAT on Oct,8, Could I apply before deadline of early decision?)

2. Deadline: Mar,3,2008

Any difference betwee these 2 rounds? Any advantage for early decision(from past experience) for international applicants?

Thanks!

Columbia is my priority and I think I am qualified for it.

1. GMAT: Go ask Adcom if you can report your AWA later. I think you have your GMAT score right after the exam, don't you?

2. ED and RD are not divided by internationals and US residents. ED is for ppl really like Columbia. So if you apply in ED, it means you really want to get in - CBS is your No.1 choice. However ED admits must pay the unrefundable 5000 deposit. So any change/fake on this willingness will be at the cost of USD 5000 at least. You decide.

I did see most mainland ppl were admitted from ED. But be careful - no one would guarantee ED gets higher admisson rate. That's all I can say.

There should be another deadline of scholarship - sometime in early January. If you complete by that date, you would be eligible for scholarship/fellowship review and considered as RD applicants. Otherwise you lose the chance to get extra money from school. Have you registered the application account? The online application should have showed the deadline, if I am right. Also pls read the website carefully otherwise you will miss a lot of info.

It is very understandable though - you are doing multi-school application. I saw your posts for Wharton, Ross, Chicago, etc. and there must be tons of info to review and several deadlines to meet. I myself would love to give a hand to your research about CBS as long as I am still in vacation.  When I get busier, I probably would ask you to see the website yourself with some directions and only provide application hints that couldn't be found in public. Hope you could understand. Thanks for all of these detailed questions and I am sure you are very quanlified. Best of luck!

Suncola:

You are so nice.

I will try to identify useful information by myself and I amy trun to you in case of anything I could not handle by myself.

I will try to be the best and be qualified for CBS through my effort. I think the process of application if a process of reflection, say , what are weaknesses and how to improve them.

Thanks a lot!!
