I will try to tell the story. Diverse experience will help me to understand and grasp more aspects of business, as my career goal is general management.

Another question: Are corporate finance and general management the strength of CBS?

No wonder with corporate finance. CBS is undoubtedly highly recognized for its finance program. No one will challenge your finance knowledge but interviewers may wonder why you choose corporate finance instead of other more exciting finance areas such as hedge fund, i banking, pe/vc, etc. Better paid and with faster track, some also offer quality lifestyle. Remember: about 30% of CBS graduates go to i banking while about 50% go to finance industry.

General management is good but not as reputable as other general management schools, HBS, Wharton, Tuck, Ross, etc. Good is that you face less competition. The bad is that less small corps come to CBS.

Suncola, Could I say,' I can gain more experiences in other aspects of finance during my study in Columbia , which can also provie more opportunites not only because of its reputation and solid academic foundation but also its location advantage. Future business leader need diversified experiences.

I don't have any data to support.  But guess the high percentage of ED admits results more from the high yield, than the high admission rate.

Reasons:
1) Ppl who really want to get in at CBS apply for ED, same rules apply with other schools;
2) ED applicants are assumed to take CBS the 1st choice, since they must sign sort of statement to complete the ED application package; and
3) ED admits need to pay the unrefundable 5000 deposit to secure an position within 3 weeks(?) after admissions are released.

Besides, fellowship and scholarship review deadlines are usually around that of Round 1.  So less ppl apply in Round 2.

Again, if you go ask AdCom of any school, they would say we look for talents by the same criteria in each round. But to apply earlier definitely gives you an advantage, as diversification would be considered more in later rounds than in earlier ones. Someone else may have already filled the slot that also fits you.

I am going to apply CBS in the ED round. Like your classmate in Class07 I've got 8-year work experience in media industry, 6 years as managine editor or publisher. I find CBS has the best MBA media program among all b schools. That's what I want for my MBA education as I plan to publish B2B magazines or websites in China after graduation. Any Chinese classmates are taking the media program now? If so, what's their opinion about it? Many thanks.

 TOEFL 成绩/ 大学成绩单/GMAT的 Hardcopy 可以 submit 以后再交吗？

因为TOEFL九月份 才考  估计要在Deadline 以前送到学校比较困难 ； 另外 大学竟然要放完暑假3周后才能开成绩单 估计 赶DEADLINE 也有困难。学校的网站上好像名确说了要收齐所有资料才开始REVIEW，而且还好像说要在DEADLINE以前

另外，要跟 adc 的什么人联系 来确定他们已经收到我的资料呢？如果我还有资料没有收到，他们会知道吗？（从来没有寄东西到国外；感觉心里没底)

其他知道情况的坛友能否也帮忙解答一下这两个问题

Sounds good but a bit general. Also, apparently most ppl would spend 80% energy on the most important 20%. I was wondering what you mean by saying other finance aspects. Sounds like this is not the key/necessary/major step in your career path.

To glgry:

Guess there would be two options for you. One is to get the media concentration in MBA program. What you need to do is just to bid media related classes in your second year. But this may stop you from CBS greatest classes such as value investing, high performance leadership, etc, due to the credit limit.

Alternatively, you should apply for Jounalism school/SIPA - Master of Media in your first year of MBA. Journalism is highly recommended but I heard it is very hard to get in. SIPA is very reputed in professional world, which Yang Lan graduated from.

In term of learning, the latter is definitely better - build your network, learn from the greatest elites in Media, etc - though it takes you 3 years to get two degrees. Or MBA with concentration of Media may be already enough for someone with good Media experience like you.

I have to mention knowledge from the school may be different from those in China. The former is purely U.S. and China, as everybody knows, is a  totally different story.

I know 3 Chinese ppl in the dual degree program of media/jounalism and MBA but sorry we did not talk much about it. Suggest you browse the school websites or email the contacts.

应该是可以的。我很晚才送分。申请的时候只要提交分数和考试日期就好了。等拿到录取并接受之后，学校会要求你提供official copy. 所有录取的同学会有一个online to do list，其中就包括了送分，你也可以在其中查询学校是否受到了你的成绩单。如果愿意进一步确认，也可以给AdCom写信问问。

寄东西到国外可以用DHL，比FedEx和UPS都便宜一些。DHL有免费电话可以打，可以要求到家取件。寄出去之后快递人员会给你一个tracking number，你可以在dhl的网站（www.dhl.com)上查询信件传递进度，比如今天在哪个城市，上了飞机没有，是否送到等等。
