BEFORE: with the old food, A had to eat 80 lbs to survive and B had to eat 40 lbs

NOW:       with the new food, A eat 38 lbs, B eat 40 lbs (old food)

In my mind, you refer A to 现在用特殊种子 and refer B to 现在仍然用普通种子

And A and B are all in the current.

And you said A and B still in the past since you used "before" in your argument.

How could that happen ?

Modified seeds can't be exisit in the past.

Modified seed is another option used to substitute the previous seed. Since the modified seed can produce the insecticide itself,the consumption of insecticide by farmers ought to be smaller than that of insectcide used in previous seed before.But unfortuantely , the difference between the consumotion used in previous seed and modified seed is almost the same.And what was worse,the profits created by modified seed is as many as that created by the previous seed.So the conclusion that modified seeds is not good enough for farmers to use could be drawn.
