You really do not get the point. The arguer is impatient with the opposing idea. As we know, emotional action or personal attack is not a reasonable argument. Why you go to spend 5 years in a degree? Just because it is easy to get into? The arguer asked 2 questions, seemingly supporting his point of view. It appears grounded at first glance, while more discreet inspection reveals that the arguer ........ I never said I go for phd just because it is easy. On the contrary, I do think it is merely a factor contributing to the final result. After all, you need to know that after choosing the major, you are going to spend the rest of your time doing research in that area. That's why it is your interest, instead of the easiness of admission, that you should consider as your reasoning. The aruger rests his conclusion on the gratuitous assumption that all PHD graduates have no way to change their subjects of research. As far as I am concerned, I change my interests constantly and feel it a way of living. How to spend the rest of my life is largely depending on my personal choice. Therefore, the arguer commits a fallacy of false analogy. As to your question about 但是如果不能录取,还谈什么兴趣呢???, I will say, without interest, even you are admited, you will be very painful. I heard about some phd students who are in the program but really feel they have the wrong decision to get into the program. Last but not least, the arguer fails to take into account other facts that contribute to some PHD's painfullness. These PHDs may not like research work as a whole; they may feel family is more important; they may believe they can earn more money in other places... Thus, to solidify the argument, the arguer would have to consider the whole situation comprehensively and demonstrate that the painfulness are largely caused by wrongly chosen majors. |
