I'll answer the 2nd question first. I don't know much about Columbia's "clusters". At Kellogg, you will be assigned to one of the eight sections, each has around 60~70 ppl. You will have your pre-term course and CIM week with your section, as well as many of the core courses during the first quarter. It's somewhat like the "班级" in China. Then for each course, you will either be assigned to a 4-5 ppl group or you can choose your own group, and finishing the group project/home together.
