我觉得是e,这个the说明是特定的某个devastation and enslavement，因为devastation and enslavement是抽象名词，Christopher Columbus 不可能personify所有的devastation and enslavement，加了冠词就是明这个devastation and enslavement市针对native peoples of the Western Hemisphere的。

如果楼主不提我也觉得A有道理但是理解意义之后我觉得还是E好即使the不妥

这句话的意识是不是说：屠杀 Western Hemisphere的应该是以进步为名义的被人性化的毁灭和奴役

而不是紧挨着的progress

"the" is perfectly used here.

It specifically means the very action carried out by Columbus, but not any one, any time,or any where else.

我選A 我的理解：Columbus personify 2 things: 1.devastation 2.enslavement. 什麼樣的enslavement? 以所謂進步為名義的.而這種進步造成西半球大批原住民的死亡. 我認為,devastation具有死亡的意思,而enslavement並沒有,但and連接兩個類似的事物,故enslavement後面補述了死亡的意思,這樣才平行 E.加the怪怪的第一次發文,請多指教! (請問要怎麼換行啊?我按enter鍵卻沒反應.謝謝)
