以下是引用wei_wangyan在2006-11-15 22:59:00的发言:144. An airplane engine manufacturer developed a new engine model with safety features lacking in the earlier model, which was still being manufactured. During the first year that both were sold, the earlier model far outsold the new model; the manufacturer thus concluded that safety was not the customers’ primary consideration. Which of the following, if true, would most seriously weaken the manufacturer’s conclusion? (A) Both private plane owners and commercial airlines buy engines from this airplane engine manufacturer. “The groups mentioned in choice A would both be expected to consider safety important, so their failing to buy the new model would be striking, without casting doubt on the conclusion; thus, A is incorrect”!!! The groups mentioned in choice A refer to private ownersand commercial airlines. Since the groups mentioned buy engines from this airplane engine manufacturer, their choice of old engines rather than new models would be againt manufacturer's initial expectation, and then manufacturer drew an conlusion that-- "safety was not the customers’ primary consideration" In this way, Choice A in fact justifys the conclusion rather than weakens it. However, Choice B, by giving other reason(customers' concern) that customers think the earlier models better safety risks than new models, weakens the manufacturer's conclusion. What's more, the concept of private plane owners and commercial airlines does not appear in the stimulus, so it may be a signal of wrong answer. The above is just my opinion, open to comments. |
