How do you know that! Don't mislead others. There should be some distinction between them.

Most Top NN schools have no PT MBA: HBS, Stanford, Tuck...

以下是引用天香国猪在2006-8-13 10:44:00的发言:

I am living in a small town and very low cost area. If I moved to Bay, I would ask for 100K  with my current tech level and experience.

I want a MBA degree, because I don't want to work on the bottom of the engineering pyramid. But, will a MBA or MEM degree move me to the top of pyramid. There is no warranty. No manager owns a MBA degree from a top 10 MBA schools in my current working place. I might think about a shortcut to manager level. Will it work?

There is another question bothers me a lot. It is easier for me to get a MBA degree from an average university. As everyone knows, if I work full time, and study part-time, company will cover all the tuition cost. I can earn money and pay nothing for a MBA degree. Do I want to do that? ... Yes. Two years hard study, I would rather spend in a top 10 MBA school. Then, I have to leave my current job, which I love the most. I like Kellogg, and it is not very hard for me to find a job in Chicago.

Keep current job and go to an average school? Get a job in Chicago and go to Kellogg? This needs to wait until I am admitted by KELLOGG.

to you, I think part time MBA is the best choice

Move to Chicago and choose Chicago or Kellogg's part time

you will receive the same certificate as those FT ones after three years

I really do not think an MBA is really so precious that's worth you give up current job

Most US people choose FT MBAs becuase they want to change their career path

From your posts, I think you still like your current career and just want to move to some management positions after MBA

So PT MBA is more suitable to you

In addition, I do not think there is much difference regarding education quality for FT and PT programs. I have friends in these PT programs, same faculty, same materials, so what's the difference?

yeah, different students pool. But I beleive that for a class full with current working people with senior or near senior levels, the network is not bad compared with a class full of pure FT students, right?

I suggest you to quit your job and get in a TOP 10 MBA FT. PT MBA is nothing but a piece of ST.

I can understand why you say so, because you don't understand american educational system at all.

For most of the major, there are no different between the PT and FT.

Kellogg and Chicago are both offering PT MBA degree. Chicago is manufacture and agriculture center of the country and financial center of mid-west. Both are among the top 5 MBA programs.

Most of PT students are already in the industry and holding a management position in the company. I ever read an article by NN school graduate. He referred FT students as not all experienced managers, and he suggested if you were a manager, you would not want to be included  in that level of discussion.

Yeah, I will wait till the end to make decision. It is not easy for me to give up current job, even I complain everyday.

以下是引用来得及时在2006-8-13 11:24:00的发言:
You are right, there is no guarantee that you can move to the top after MBA, of course, a MBA from a top school will help, but not for centain.  For me personally, I plan to take a pay cut after MBA(hope not, but ready).  I just want to do the work I like,  that money will be enough for me, for us.
I am just saying, do what you like the best.  Too many of us compromise our job for the money,  I made that mistake, but don't want to make it again.

I do think after a good MBA program in Management, or even an ok one will get you a manager job,  I would doubt it would put you on the top of pyrimid right away, which is a good thing, you wouldn't have the experience to handle it.

I am discouraged by my colleagues, because they don't know anyone with a NN MBA degree holding a management position. I don't know whether you get same feedback.

To Tianxiang Guzhu,

I really don't know US education system, and that's the reason why I am obsessed to study abroad.I judge from what I have seen in China. That's why I insist on FT.

Even if what you said is true (the diploma is identical), I don't think PT MBA is equivalent to FT.

BTW,you can choose any one as you like. But don't show American arrogance to your compatriot!
