Which of the following most logically completes the argument?

The irradiation of food kills bacteria and thus retards spoilage. However, it also lowers the nutritional value of many foods. For example, irradiation destroys a significant percentage of whatever vitamin B1 a food may contain. Proponents of irradiation point out that irradiation is no worse in this respect than cooking. However, this fact is either beside the point, since much irradiated food is eaten raw, or else misleading, since _______.

Q51/V42/T760

AA: “This past winter, 200 students from Waymarsh State College traveled to the state capitol building to protest against proposed cuts in funding for various state college programs. The other 12,000 Waymarsh students evidently weren’t so concerned about their education: they either stayed on campus or left for winter break. Since the group who did not protest is far more numerous, it is more representative of the state’s college students than are the protesters. Therefore the state legislature need not heed the appeals of the protesting students.”

AI: “Scientists are continually redefining the standards for what is beneficial or harmful to the environment. Since these standards keep shifting, companies should resist changing their products and processes in response to each new recommendation until those recommendations become government regulations.”

Math:

(1) P is odd; (2) p的个位数不是5.

f(x)是定义在实数上的函数, f(x^2)<=(f(x))^2?

(1) f(x)<=0; (2) 如果x>=0, f(x)=-x, 如果x<0, f(x)=x. (D)

(1) median$1,000 (数字不确定); (2) standard deviation$500 (数字不确定)

ab都是整数, 1<a<b,

a
b是多少? (1) a+b=12; (2) a*b=35. (B)

1.        GWD-5-Q30:

Which of the following most logically completes the argument?

The irradiation of food kills bacteria and thus retards
            spoilage.

  1. many of the proponents of irradiation are food distributors who gain from food’s having a longer shelf life

  2. it is clear that killing bacteria that may be present on food is not the only effect that irradiation has

  3. cooking is usually the final step in preparing food for consumption, whereas irradiation serves to ensure a longer shelf life for perishable foods

  4. certain kinds of cooking are, in fact, even more destructive of vitamin B1 than carefully controlled irradiation is

  5. for food that is both irradiated and cooked, the reduction of vitamin B1 associated with either process individually is compounded
