15．In this argument the author concludes that voting for Adams
is voting for proven leader ship in the state’s economy improvement. The
conclusion is based on three facts 1) the wages of the state’s workers
have had increases for seventy percent, there are five thousand new jobs
created, and six corporations’ headquarters have been had increases over the
past year alone, (2) in a recent poll most of the respondents believed
that if Adams reelected, the economy is likely to continue to improve, and (3)
Zebulon, Adams’s opponent, disagrees with many of Adams’s economic policies. While
this argument is somewhat convincing, a few concerns need to be addressed.
16. The editorial
concludes that it will be easier for graduate students to get jobs teaching
their specialties at the college level. This conclusion is in response to
demographic trends which indicate that an increasing number of people will be
reaching college age over the next ten years. The editorial’s line of
reasoning is that the increasing of the number of reaching college age
people will improve the job market dramatically, thereby improving the state of
the people seeking college-level teaching positions in their fields including
those from Waymarsh. This line of reasoning is problematic in two critical
respects.
17. In this
argument the author concludes that Acid-Ease should be chosen by who need
an effective but milder nonprescription medication for the relief of excess
stomach acid. The conclusion is based on three facts1)Acid-Ease and
Pepticaid, two of today’s best-selling brands of full-strength prescription
medication, are now available in milder nonprescription forms, and (2) 76million
more prescriptions for full-strength Acid-Ease than for full-strength Pepticaid
have been written. While this argument is somewhat convincing, a few
concerns need to be addressed.
18. The head of
a governmental department claims that to ensure ethical behavior by
companies doing business with this department neither stronger ethics
regulations nor stronger enforcement mechanisms are necessary. Two reasons
are offered in support of this claim. First, virtually all of these
companies have agreed to follow the code of ethics by which companies doing
business with this department are urged to abide. Second, the code,
approved within the last year, is relevant to the current business environment
and, not in abstract anticipation of potential violations as so many such codes
are, response to specific violations committed by companies with which they
were then working directly. This argument is unconvincing for two reasons.
19. The writer concludes
that the unprecedented growth of the restaurant industry in the country of
Spiessa over the past decade will continue in the coming years. This conclusion
is in response to the recent social changes: the rising of personal
incomes, the availability of more leisure, the common of single-person
households, and greater interesting gourmet food as evidenced by a
proliferation of publications on the subject. The editorial’s line of
reasoning is that the recent social changes will fuel the unprecedented
growth. This line of reasoning is problematic in two critical respects.
20. The author recommends
that it’s a wise investment in good health to drink Saluda Nature Spring
Water, although it may seem costly. This recommendation is based on two
facts1) the completely free bacteria Saluda Nature Spring Water contains
several of the minerals necessary of good health--------shown by laboratory
studies, and (2) the residents of the water bottled small town are
hospitalized less frequently than the national average. While this argument
is somewhat convincing, a few concerns need to be addressed.
