THX!

b) an upscale clientelte would be interested in a house wares catalog
原文的关键词应只是:magazine=like format。
d) a magazine-like format requires a copywriter and a graphic artist

Child’s world, a chain of toy stores, has relied on a “supermarket concept” of computerized inventory control and customer self-service to eliminate the category of sales clerks from its force of employees. It now plans to employ the same concept in selling children’s clothes.
The plan of Child’s World assumes that
(A)supermarkets will not also be selling children’s clothes in the same manner
(B)personal service by sales personnel is not required for selling children’s clothes successfully
(C)the same kind of computers will be used in inventory control for both clothes and toys at Child’s World
(D)a self-service plan cannot be employed without computerized inventory control
(E)sales clerks are the only employees of Child’s World who could be assigned tasks related to inventory control

I am not a NN. However, I will bet the anwser is (B).

I am not familiar with the keyword analysis. However, here the key is "concept". Using a magzine-like catalog is a concept. Hiring copywriter to do it is not a concept. So D is not even close, it is irrelevant. (why should we care who design the catalog?)
Even follow fyh's after=require, etc. what required is not hiring copywriter etc, but a magzine-like catalog. Just think about it, the company could just use internal staffs to produce the magzine like houseware catalog.

The assumption here has three parts: (B), the sales jump was because more upscale clientle bought their staff and upscale clientle like magzine-like format.

b)an upscale clientelte would be interested in a housewares catalog

1.其缺少核心词magazine-like format. that is a concept of this argument. without out it, you cannot support or weaken.

2.be interested in 不等于buy
we cannot read too much in choice to make it work.

housewares catalog不等于magazine-like format housewares catalog
据个例子,我be interested in 等于buy
an upscale clientelte would be interested in a housewares catalog
就认为,an upscale clientelte must be interested in our magazine-like format housewares catalog

fyhllj

a mail ```company ~~~~in clothing sales after hiring a copywriter and a graphic artist  to ~~~~~~~~~

in order to appeal to a more upscale clientele
the company is planning to launch a housewares catelog using the same concept

这里,the same concept的意思说,这个housewares catelog 肯定和前面的clothing catelog 是一样的
一样在什么地方呢,就是都hiring a copywriter and a graphic artist

a magazinelike format requires a copywriter and a graphic artist这个大前提文章已经事先说明了

I always use instinct for CR. However, let's go for a "formal" analysis here.
If not B, => upscale clinetle won't be their potential client base, then the "clothing catalog"'s sucess to attract them would totally be irrelevant.
If not D, they can still increase their sale by using magzine format catalog to appeal to high end clientle. e.g. they might chose hiring people other than copywriter to make the magzine format catalog.
On the surface, the first sentence address equally on hiring copywriter and using magazine format. Commonsense tells us that, "the upscale clientle" do not care or know who designed the catalog, but do notice the layout and design of the catalog.

fyhllj 举出b三点"错误" only show B is not 充分条件。Without copywriter, or not D, the decision might be weaken, because the copywriters MIGHT contribute to the sucess of the catalog, which we don't know. However, if not B, the decision of using the same concept for houseware will be totally unsupported. So B is more fundamental than D.

ur choice depends on ur explanation of concept.

if we define concept as manner of promotion, D is rite.

but wat if we explain concept as the unique design conceived by some very person? perhaps C can b true in that case.

actually in advertising, concept means a total plan for promotion, including the stuff and the manner. so, i choose D.

the deduction should b like this :
a copywriter and a graphic artist => a magazine-like format => appeal to a more upscale clientle => a big jump in clothing sales

D help to explain the 1st "=>". the left 2 "=>" r still suspended. but obviously it does not matter.
