pollutant是不可数名次吧，可是为什么要加s呢？

可是疑问还有：
既然是可数，为什么要用less 而不是fewer?

Less表污染物量多少， fewer表污染物种类多少， 此题要比较量的多少， 所以用LESS. 不知理解的对不对。

刚查过字典，pollutant是变化名词（variable noun),可以加s,也可以不加，两者都是一样的。区别的时候根据逻辑判断是抽象名词的即为不可数~所以我觉得这道题跟less 没有关系

更况且，less of后面是一定要跟不可数名字或者名词的单数形式，字典可是这样说的。

白勇的書中p.193解釋：

emit less of pollutants, less of（較少地）向前修飾動詞emit，而不是向後修飾名詞pollutants.

另外，我有個問題

為什麼does不用重複？

agree with carrielee.  i member that "less of" means "smaller in degree", acting like an adverb.  so it really doesnt mater whether the noun that followes is singular or plural.
