1。Two clauses conjuncted by "and" should have Parallel elements:Subjects,Josephine and she,are paralleled.

2.An Adverb clause is better placed before the main clause.

C错的主要原因是状从before to be an expatriate was fashions 的问题。

1。 从逻辑上来说，如果主语是 to be an expatriate， 那说谁是expatriate不清楚，这个是一个大错。

2。 to be an expatriate,从语法上说，to be是表目的的prepositionc词组，一般很少将介词词组作为主语的。

对于c，...to be an expatriate was fashions 是有问题的

对于d，it是形式主语，代替to be an expatriate，to be an expatriate 是不定式做主语，表目的；后文and she remained ...主语为she，为保证句子结构一致，第一个句子的主语也应该是这个人，即Josephine Baker made..

不同意这个解释：

不定式是可以做主语的， 语法上没有错误，如

to talk to you is nice.=it is nice to tale to you (通常用法）

to be an expatriate was fashionable =it was fashionable to be a expatriate（通常用法）, 这时it 作为形式主语

C选项错在 “long before..." 结构的插入，使句子意思有被割裂的感觉（og解释），所以不如D选项clear,最佳选项为D
