That's easier said than done -- at least so in the virtual space. In reality, currently enrolled students are hesitant to respond to candidates or incoming students' queries concerning their program; even if they do, few are forthcoming enough. Faculty members often are more responsive but grudge spending their precious time on that. Campus visits would be a better idea. In this regard, kudos goes to the schools (e.g., WUSTL) including campus visits as part of the admissions process. But those are infeasible for most international candidates.
Schools rarely disclose "inside information" on their websites. On the other hand, it is not uncommon that information publicized there, including placement data, contains omissions, inaccuracies, and even errors. Interestingly, the lower a school ranks, the more prevalent those are. However, it would be "insane" to dismiss such information as worthless; the correct approach would be to use that with a critical eye. |
