本次阅读做的很差，基本没太看懂，需要再次精度分析原因：
18世纪后期见证了g文学的兴起，被猜测是由于动荡的法国大革命引起。m认为像r和l类似作家执笔的不定的g叙述是欧洲改革之后难以避免的结果。但是w提出了更微妙的视角，表明g浪漫也来源于那个年代的不稳定，反应社会对于崩溃旧序的迷恋。
当时的评论家利用文字游戏，指出这种新兴的风格为“小说写作里的恐怖系统“，双关反映恐怖和崇高的融合，g小说对恐怖和崇高元素是与悲剧和史诗这两个文学巅峰的的战略性结合。这种结合是作者在评估文学市场的故意行为，后来为w带来了丰厚回报。
评论家给g文学作者贴上的恐怖分子标签有双重含义：一个是贬义昵称降低了文学期望，说他们是缺乏文学素养的暴徒。然而，区分在这个标签里的夸张很重要。对他们的描述更多的是satirical讽刺而不是指责accusatory，通过和不是很恐怖的事情联系在一起降低了严重性。
