PE发明能够解决问题的电脑的成功不仅仅取决于他的目标和决心，也来自于他learn from nature的能力。1980s他发明了parallel computer，能够同时进行计算。1989PE用这个massive parallel computer完成了被认为是计算机难题的问题：通过subterranean geologic formations来预测flow of oil。在那时，supercomputer只能一次一次的计算，十分麻烦。

要给oil field flow建模，需要同时计算成千上万个location。在每个location也有很多个间歇性改变的变量需要计算——温度、压力、流动方向、速率等。PE发明了massive parallel computer链接65000台小电脑。
出现一个困难就是怎么精准分配任务到给每个小电脑使得小电脑间工作互不干扰。PE从自然规律里找到ideas，设计了branching patterns。树木的branching pattern 能够使叶子吸收最多的阳光，程序里的branching patterns能够使电脑接受更多的指令。

1996年PE有了另外的突破——parallel computer能够预测下一世纪的气温状况。这个设计是基于拥有3维空间的bee's honeycombs建设的。PE相信科学家在今后将会更多的关注自然来找寻难题的solutions。科技也会因此快速进步。
