main idea: dams have positive and negative effects and people are considering whether the former can > the latter
structure:
1.put forward the original view and raise question:
-only positive: electricity(w.o pollution) provider/water needs for agriculture and human/flood protection? positive > negative ?
2.two changes:after dam construction
-water flow changed, temperature increase
-salinity increased, oxygen decreased
-midl result: change the environment
-mid result: make native species unable to survive and make new species easier to invade
-final result: make the environment worse
3.eg: photographs of southwest
-environment: desert plants. ➡️ riparian plants
-salmon: lose spawning stream
-address method: fish ladder & barges to transport
-comments: limited success

Dams(大坝) debates about dams’ environmental harmful impacts.e.g. 1. no natural seasonal variations in free-flowing river. 2. chemistry of the water may be altered. These two may create new environment native species may not survive and further new species invade such place and further disrupt systems. River flow patterns changed by dams affect native species formerly lived. E.g. salmon
