P1: Surprising findings on planets' mass and orbit. - raise question
Imagine: though, similar
Actual: differ dramatically
Examples: 51P, HD40, 55C
科学小说都不敢这么写(出题: 提到science fiction为了说明什么?surprising)
P2: White dwarf systems are actually very common. - explain
Planets and blocks can orbit bodies no larger than planets, and stars do not need to be sun-like.
Variety of these systems equal that of systems around ordinary stars. Solar system might not be the most common. (出题: 这句话的意思?还是说太阳系和其他的quite different)
P3: The first discovery of extrasolar planets was an even more extreme type than White dward. - provide additional support to P2
(出题: sometimes forgotten?)
Those planets must have risen up out of the ashes of the explosion for 2 reasons:
1- a mass greater than sun to a size of a small asteroid created by supernova explosion, which is more violent than demise of a sun-like star and hard to imagine planets surving the explosion.
2- radius larger than 1 AU and 1 AU is larger than orbits of the planets we see today.
P4: How are planets formed after supernova? - explain
Supernova eject debris to space, a smaller amount remains... and falls.. to form a disk, which is the birthing grounds of planets.
P5: How is PSR1257 found? - introduce
By detecting periodic deviations and such deviations arise because the orbiting planets pull slightly....(出题: 细节题) Despite...(出题: 说明unique)
Another different example: orbits far away from the star, didn't form disk but was captured from another star.
Main Idea: Introduce and explain surprising findings of other systems.
