Essays

First-time applicants and re-applicants are required to complete both essays.

The Admissions Committee wants to get to know you on both a professional and personal level. We encourage you to be introspective, candid and succinct. Most importantly, we suggest you be yourself.

Essay 1: What do you hope to gain professionally from the Wharton MBA? (500 words)

Essay 2: Describe an impactful experience or accomplishment that is not reflected elsewhere in your application. How will you use what you learned through that experience to contribute to the Wharton community? (400 words)

Additional Question (required for all Reapplicants):

• Explain how you have reflected on the previous decision about your application, and discuss any updates to your candidacy (e.g., changes in your professional life, additional coursework, extracurricular/volunteer engagements). (250 words)*

Essay 1
基本上，这是一篇写法八股的goal + why school essay。大家可以

简单梳理过去的career path，以此论证你接下来要在什么行业具体从事哪个function，说明这样的职位需要哪些知识技能是你现在没有或尚需完善的、可以通过Wharton课堂内外的什么资源来获得。全文要呈现出科学的career planning，对MBA的合理预期和Wharton的深入了解。

Essay 2
如果说上一篇是关于“take”，这一篇则重点写你的“give”。往年仅仅只是问“How will you contribute to the Wharton community”，今年明确了必须有具体的track record，看来学校也不希望看到申请人只停留在在夸夸其谈的superficial层面，要能给出solid evidence。

记住故事素材应该是其他申请材料没有提及的，或许是一般情况下你认为不那么耀眼的经历，好像没有产生immediate business impact，却自有它的光彩。比如你曾在公司initiate一个training program帮助实习生过渡到fulltime，这后来成了一个固定的项目。以后在Wharton你希望担任second-year Student Life Fellow 帮助一年级同学更好地适应和最大化商学院的经历。除了为已有的传统活动、热门社团添砖加瓦，你也可以创造资源create something new。为了确保你“提供”的东西真的有价值、能被人接受，需要结合学校的具体情况来写，和学生的需求匹配起来，做细致和up-to-date的school research。
