Triangle ABC is equilateral , AC=6. Angle D is 45 degrees, from A to DC at point E(perpendicular) AE=DE=x, angle ACE is 75 degrees. x=6sin75, EC=6cos75, CD=x+EC=6(sin75+cos75)=
6*sqrt(2)(sin75*cos45+cos75*sin45)=6*sqrt(2)*sin120=6sqrt(2)*sqrt(3)/2=3sqrt(6)
As you have put it, △ABC is an equilateral triangle. However, since DC//AB, ∠ECA=∠CAB=60° but not 75°.
As far as I am concerned, GMAT doesn't often contain problems that require the formula sin(α+β)=sinαcosβ+cosαsinβ.
