Ivey always grants people too much nostagia, one old bus-school, one good North-American school, and ... its nice name gildens what its value is. Nothing can stays out of change, the only predicatable is changes are constant. Today, changes comes to Ivey. No matter what kind of change the reform resulted in, clearly Ivey leads canadian business schools, as it DARES TO BE MIGHTY. You might argue Rotman should be the top bus-school, sure you are right. However, to lead doesn't have a pre-requisite of being ranked No.1. At its proposed reform, Ivey shows its courage and tactics again in the business professional education. You can't help admiring its boldness and ambition.

It must be DESTINY that induces ivey to do so. It's only MAGIC that can explain.

Thanks for Ivey guys' information. I still have some questions to ask.

1.How many specialties in Ivey and how many can one pick? What are the spcialties?

2.Although the new one year program has not posted the curriculum design, would you give more details according to the current curriculum?

3.There are 12 electives chosen from dozens of electives in the fourth modul,and what are them? Are there are any such materials available?

4.I am working on the essay.Do you think I take the class visit before or after applying?

Hi seekmydream,

Actually at Ivey we take whatever elective courses we want in the 2nd year, instead of pick up one concentration or two. A few special streams are also available. One is Biotech Stream, which targets at pharm, biotech industries. Another is MBA/CMA program, in which you could take elective courses for CMA (Certified Management Accountant). However, the program design for MBA/CMA in the changed one year program has not yet been announced. As well many students do their CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) in the 2nd year. You can get many supports in this area.

Current program is designed in two parts: core program and elective courses. Core courses include Finance, Accounting, Leadership, Management Science, Marketing, Operations, Strategy, Career Management, Communications, Economics, MIS, etc. Electives will be further discussions on each of those functions. All courses are delivered in a case teaching method. Sorry I don't have a list of electives right now.

The new program will be in four modules which are still under deverlopment. I have some information about the new program shared on earlier posts.

I strongly recommend you make a class visit if you can. It will help a lot. Since case teaching is so different from lecture based method, a class visit will definetely help you better understand what it is, whether or not you like and whether or not it fits you. In turn, it will help you on essays.

Two more updated information about ivey:

1) To learn more about the program change, go to Globle and Mail's special report http://www.theglobeandmail.com/partners/ivey/. It's propaganda, but it's official.

2) A recent BW article ( A Heady Job Market for MBAs ) cites the following: In fact, the difference from one year to the next leaves an impression. For example, at the University of Western Ontario's Richard Ivey School of Business, 94% of job seekers in 2005 had an offer within three months of graduation, compared to 68% in 2004.

rongdongc, thanks for posting this. My intepretation of the big variance of job numbers between years is that job market is that much correlated to general economy.

Now we are back to school after the short holiday break. I may not be as committed to taking questions as I did in holidays. My friends at Ivey will also take question, so you will see different IDs answering questions here.
