The building was constructed recently and met local building-safety codes in every particular except that the nails used for attaching the roof support to the building’s columns were of a smaller size than the codes specify for this purpose. Clearly, this collapse exemplifies how even a single, apparently insignificant, departure from safety standards can have severe consequences.

B seems to say it will definitely collapse bcoz of snow weight, which is beyong the limit, but not of the nails.

D is similar for it attributes columns as the cause. not consistent with the article.

我觉得如果将d中的no拿走，则是最完美的答案。

但是，有no应该不能作为答案。说说你的理由？

A lder building（roof collapsed），constructed according to less exacting standards than those in the safety codes.和conclusion一致。（In view of astandard applied , older building is In scope，not out scope）

D：“not stronger than ”包括as strong as, 所以是weaken原文。（Tricky：如果把not拿掉，stronger than。。。可以是支持原文。但从充分必要上考虑，其支持的程度不如A，甚至是错误的。因为结论是否定式－－departure from 。。。而无not的D是stronger）

我觉得A要支持结论，则必须隐含一个条件，即：该地区其他的房子的建设都是符合该安全标准的。否则，A无法支持结论。

但是，我从A得不出这个假设。不知道ethy版主如何推出A是正确的。

我没有仔细看题的时候，一看就觉得D是我要选的答案。下面，是我对D的理解。

如果将not拿走，则为The columns of the building were stronger than the building safety codes required for such a building.

即columns 比safety codes required for such a building要求的更结实，所以，很可能collaps的原因不是columns 不符合安全法规（columns 坏的话，应该是较大的违反安全法规），排除了他因。因而支持结论:

是钉子出问题这样很小的违反该安全法规造成很大的后果。

到目前为止，我还无法选出那个选项为答案。

请各位指教。

TO4楼，我觉得题目不是说哪种building的范围的问题，而是那些building是否符合标准的问题，所以无论A说不说old building 还是哪些building，只要是建筑物就可以；

而D中The columns of the building were not stronger than the building safety codes required for such a building，只是说stronger的问题，但是没提到结论中“how even a single, apparently insignificant”的意思。。。。

这是我选A的原因。
