MPP你就當是較technical, 較pre-experience的版本就是了.

这些金融专业是给本科不是太以职业为导向的人准备的 <--- it is true for a pure general finance program like MIT one, but not like the one in Columbia or Princeton (US view)

From a market point of view, your bachelor institution is the most important.
The normal case is, they get the one who get an internship there in year 3 summer (i.e. that guy has some other internship / activities in year 1 & 2), and then the firm give them a return offer.
this type of general MSF is exactly for those with a non-related major in bachelor indeed, but only for those people with a non-related bachelor with some internship experience. In this way, they can get a finance title (who care if they have a master or not? finance is so easy, and dont need a master at all academically), and more importantly get one more year of time.

This sample is small, and thus the demand is small too. Most good finance roles had taken by top undergraduate already, and thus really a few top US school offer a pre-expereince master in general finance. (they do have a post-experience version: MBA with concentration in finance)

Of course, a technical financial engineering master is a different stories. Thing there are hard core technical stuff, and a master is needed in order to handle them. and thus a related bachelor (math/phy/stat/cs or whatever STEM major) is required for admission. Put this aside first.

The US business school education philosophy believe that business education is mainly for those have a few year of experience.

they believe that business education is something vague, soft. it is about networking, about management, instead of any hard core technical skill (this should be acquire in the bachelor). therefore, a few years of working experience is a must for their flagship education, the MBA.bachelor is for some more intellectual and fundmental stuffs, whatever science and engineering, art and social science and etc....

and thus, top US business rarely offer a stand alone business major at bachelor level.
it is only around 1 out of M7, and 3 out of S16 doing so. Reason as aforesaid.
pre-experience soft master in business are rare too for the same reason.

P.S. It really depends on if OP wanna stay US long term or not. If you, go STEM. lucky draw 3 times differs a lot from lucky draw 1 time. Accounting and marketing is thus out. (marketing should be out all the time indeed - why marketing field need a master?) Management should be out too. Financial engineering is out given OP mathematical background too.
I wonder if WUSTL counts as a target or not for finance indeed. I guess not really, and thus should be out.

P.S. nearlly all top/good school in UK offer a master in finnance / related stuffs. OP should have a shoot there if he/she just want a master title for career back China. Whatever Oxford MSc Fina Econ, Cambridge MPhil Fina, LBS MFA / MiM, LSE variou master in the supermarket list.........well he/she can say that he/she dont like UK at all, this is fine. but peole in the industry dont fxcking care your little weird preference. They will just take someone they view that as a fit.

非常中肯！确实master阶段纯金融或者管理学导向的商科学习在很大程度上只是要个title（以及有些有比较好的资源），更多的东西还是在本科阶段就应该培养的； 签证是个决定性的问题，看LZ之后是要留在哪边了

因為過不過得了resume關, 是看某校是否target school. (簡單點說就是舊生多不多行業中人)
ranking甚麼的沒人理的.

trading.....其實trading這玩意現在被programming + AI蠶食得很厲害...........

另不知你是男是女........i heard that gender matters in trading too:
they strong favour male (traders attitude)  + math/science bachground (since they need some with good sense with numbers)

真是讽刺。。如果一个非以职业为导向的本科生能够在今这些项目之前就能保证将来就业，还要读这些干什么。。实习经验的话一定要金融行业吗？如果是传统行业big name外资呢？

其实有一点不明白，如果想在工作三年之内去读顶级MBA top 3, 不去金融咨询行业而是去传统行业500强是否也能达到同样的效果？

已經拿了offer的當然不會去啦, 但是總會有一些只差一點點,
舉例說, 就像你這類是good uni但又不是target要big name
或有些人畢業前只拿到internship要buy time and title.又或者有人有green card但不在美國讀bachelor, 現在想relocate back to US..
總有幾個這類人的.

但是其實真的不多. 正正是因為top FI這個recruitment prefernecce, US target business school都沒幾個會開pre-experience MSF了. 就只有MIT試了一試 (Columbia MSc Fina Econ & Princeton MFin不算MSF, they are way too much technical and academical than a common general finance master)
但是似乎看起來就是, 他們最新就是分出了Financial Engineering stream.

據我linkedin所見, 之前MIT MSF chinese student 的placement 都不少BB analyst, 但似乎都是回了APAC......

所以如果你想留美的話, 轉STEM吧.
如果只是想要個title鍍金之後回國, Oxbridge LBS LSE都比美國便宜, 而且更多選擇.....沒有非去美國的不可.不想回國又不想轉STEM的, 就轉戰加拿大/歐陸吧....


P.S. 不要說甚麼"有教無類", 甚麼"百年樹人", 甚麼"學校就是應該是把平通人教得更好, 而不是只把精英招進來"
This is a business school. 商學院搞的, 不是教育, 而是利益和資源的交換. 和牟利組織說甚麼教育理念, 是對牛彈琴.
It is all about $$.

P.S. 實習最好要same industry. 當然不是的也照做. 下一個暑假再找相關的.......I guess you know what "return offer' means.
