E后面其实是去修饰population的而A的when compared...这里从句的主语其实是group，所以不正确，综上选择E

这样怎么解释呢？感觉很奇怪啊 1910年这个群体占据了人口的35%， 人口compared with 20%??真是奇怪， 但是也只有E正确

compared在这里是“ed分词”修饰35%，也就是说35%被跟之后的20%比
when compared这里主语不明确 （到底是35%被比还是group被比？）
而且一般when之后都加从句

个人观点
in 1910 this group made up 35 percent of the population when compared to 20 percent in 2000.

这里用when，如果翻译过来，就是只有和2000年的20%对，1910才回事35%。但是实际上意思应该是1910的35%和2000年的20%是无关的，并不是一个建立在一个基础上。when把两者联系了起来

A. when 之后的从句内容，要一直牵扯到本句主句的主语 this group, 因为this group 和20% 没有逻辑对应，所以错误；
E. 35 percent of the population, compared with 20 percent in 2000  迷惑人的地方是， compared with 20 % in 2000 不是修饰最近的polulation,而是跳过POPULATION 修饰35%， 因为POPULATION 本身也是修饰35%的。  compared这类修饰短语是可以跳过前面的A词，指代更远的B词， 前提是B词也是从属临近A词的。
