As a youth who spent numerous nights at cinemas, I would choose to meet Meryl Streep, an excellent film actress in my heart since my childhood.
For one thing, the heroines in the films starring Meryl Streep have lasting influences on my growth. From an independent girl who immigrated from Denmark to Africa in “Out of Africa” to the romantic yet innocent woman in “Bridges of Madison County”, her films embodied extraordinary women in their ordinary, everyday lives and ordinary women caught in extraordinary situations. The heroines performed by her appeal to me by their empathy and talent, depth and humanity, all of whom were curious and enthusiastic about the world, though sometimes they were hurt and became confused. The night when “Out of Africa” was shown in a small cinema in our town is unforgettable and the wind would remember the repetition of the line, “ I had a farm in Africa at the foot of Ngong hills”. I read the novel by Isak Dinesen years later and thought of Meryl Streep’s marvelous performances. If I see her one day, I want to ask her feelings toward Karen as well as other heroines including Mrs Kramer and Sophie.
Another reason I choose Meryl Streep is that she is a devoted and outstanding actress. Compared with other film stars, she is not among the most beautiful ones but she is surely one of the most devoted ones, who usually have a long acting career. She starred in “The Hours” as a woman who was fascinated with the novels of Virginia Woolf in her 60s and will play in some other films recently. She is still the charming woman in my memories, calm, considerate and quiet. Another topic I would like to discuss with her is her opinions about being an actress, especially being one who is devoted to the stage and the big screen.
It is often said that film stars look different in their daily life from the appearances on the big screen. If I could meet Meryl Streep, I would like to see a true woman in real life and talk about those distant heroines in the impressive films due to her performances and tell her that her movies are beyond nationalities and culture, beyond age and race.Every woman of the world can recognize herself, or see a role model in these strong and passionate women Meryl Streep has incarnated on the screen.
