一道很TRICKY 的真题，答案几乎无争议，但谁能说清是为什么？！

Whales originated in the freshwater lakes and rivers of ancient Asia about sixty million years ago.  Not until about ten million years later did species of whales develop specialized kidneys enabling them to drink salt water.  Although fossil evidence shows that some early whale species that lacked such kidneys sometimes swam in the Earth’s saltwater oceans, these species must have had to return frequently to freshwater rivers to drink.

答案是A，为什么？ 看不明白呀。

题目来源我已经说过两次了 - 来自朋友的不会的题，他的题似乎来自GWD小班，不确定。

A.在between sixty million and fifty million years ago, whale几乎都是without specialized kidneys，它们在海里游不长，故无法到达continents that were at the time separated from ancient Asia by wide expanses of ocean.故也就没有化石。

还有一招，实在看不懂，就选A吧（难题选A赖皮法），考试的时候也不能死在一道题目上。

  谢谢jnlvo的解释。 但我还是有一点没捋顺：为什么 “without specialized kidneys，它们在海里游不长”，就导出 这些鲸鱼“故无法到达continents that were at the time separated from ancient LACE u1:st="on">AsiaLACE> by wide expanses of ocean.”呢？ 游不长只能说明它们没法去另一片海域，这和它们能不能去另一快大陆有什么关系呢？即使他们有了那个什么什么肾，他们也还是不可能去那片大陆，也还是不可能有化石呀？！ 如果题目把continent 改成 ocean,我就能懂。
