研究了前人关于这道题的讨论，我还是不明白这道题为什么要选E。我个人觉得选择C更好，当然我知道我的想法是错。不过我想知道自己错在哪里了和如何改变我的思路。我听了一下新东方老师的解释，他说C和E从语法的角度上来讲都是正确的，但是因为E比较简洁所以我们选择E。可是我觉得这题用E不是容易有歧义？

E可以理解为damaging the growth of or slowing the growth of forests 或者damaging forests or slowing the growth of forests. 如果选择C的话，这个歧义就可以避免。请明白这道题的XDJM帮忙解释一下。谢谢！

当把原文中的动词改成名词的时候要很小心, 因为somehow它改变了原文的意思.

role...in slowing...: 在slow这个动作(而且是进行中的)中所扮演的角色. 言下之意: 已经slow了.

role...in slowness...在"缓慢"(名词)中所扮演的角色. 是不是已经slow不知道, 只是说有这个能力让它slow.

我看过你的回答啊！你的意思是不是指原文中强调的是acid rain在damaging or slowing 这个过程中的角色。而c选项想调的是它在damage or slowness这个结果中的角色？可是我始终觉得如果D这种说法容易产生歧义的话，为什么我们不说E也容易产生歧义啊？

D把damaged和slowed并列, 作为修饰growth的形容词, 改变了原文的意思. 原文要表达的意思是slow growth 和damage forest并列.

C 的确有点罗嗦，没有必要两次用the,

the A and theB   可以减成the a and b

As far as I remember, there is a principle: if you can use the verb form and noun form at the same time, choose the verb form first. Does that help?

多谢楼上帮忙。但现在的问题是，如果D选项两个过去分词并列可以造成歧义，为何E选项两个现在分词并列就不造成歧义呢？难道就是因为后面的growth前面多了个the?

如果E造成了歧义，那么即使C比较罗嗦，没有用V而用抽象名词，那错误也没有歧义大吧？呵呵
