看到现在也没看明白：

为什么E的damaging or slowing the growth of forests in the eastern United States.不会产生歧义。

有人说damage只能指forests，不能指the growth。

那OG为什么不用slowing the growth of or damaging forests in the eastern United States.不是更好吗？

另外，想问：

There is no consensus on what role. if any, is played by acid rain in the eastern United States.

黄色标亮部分是什么意思，on what role作什么成分？

我看到这个问题前人有问过，the growth of 离forests太远，the growth of forests是一个完整的词组，词组间好象不能有插入成分，否则读起来也别扭。

另外，想问：
