There is a controversy recently about whether building a new university in our community is good. Some people think a new university would bring many demerits, but other people think it has more merits and is worth to do. In my opinion, I prefer the latter one. In the following discussion, I would like to reason and provide evidence to support my viewpoint.
One of the main advantages is that having a new university built in our community would be of benefit to residents in the community and the neighborhood. At the present time, many people still could not get high education due to all kinds of reasons. If there is a new university in the community they would have more opportunities and convenience to get high education. For example, students would not take long time on the way from school to home and would devote more time to their study. On the other hand, in such a modern society, it is obvious that education has been very important to students, even many of adults who look forward to acquire more knowledge from university for doing well their job or helping their children. Therefore, building a new university will be very helpful.
Another advantage is that a new university would bring many jobs to the community. The new university would afford a variety of job opportunities for more people. A new university need not only many teachers and custodians but also lots of service workers such as librarians, chefs and cashiers of cafeterias, and entrance guards. Many people would get a proper job from the university. This would be an invaluable contribution to the entire society.
Admittedly, locating a university in the community would also bring some demerits. For example, there are more people who the community could not control will enter the community. In that case, the community would be not safe for people living there. Nevertheless, another obvious fact is that new people in community would be additional taxpayers. With more people paying taxes, there would be more money for community needs. Therefore, advantages are very obvious.
To sum up, given the reasons discussed above, it is safe to reach the conclusion that building a new university is feasible and desirable. I also believe that people, community, even development of society would benefit from it.
