103 In your opinion, what is the most important characteristic (for example, honesty, intelligence, a sense of humor) that a person can have to be successful in life? Use specific reasons and examples from your experience to explain your answer. When you write your answer, you are not limited to the examples listed in the prompt.
What is the most important characteristic that a person can have to be successful in life? Different people hold different opinions due to different backgrounds. As far as I am concerned, I believe that cooperation is the most important characteristic for a person to achieve success, whether in a company, or in the society.
The first plain truth, I am presenting here, is that one's energy is limited. However competent you are, however experienced, you may not grasp all the knowledge and skills necessary to cope with a myriad of problems. The strength of an individual is limited, however, that of a collective is boundless. To achieve a synergy of a team, everyone must be cooperative. A good example can be found in the case that a product manager must collect the customer requirement from marketing department and consult with engineering department about the technical feasibility. If the salesmen or the engineers are reluctant to cooperate with the product manager, it will stiffen the creativity of the product manager. Hence, cooperation is very important for the success.
Second, behind my view that the most important characteristic for a person to be successful in life lies the fact that problems are already very complex and will probably become even more complex in the future. Nothing is more efficient and effective to solve the complex, challenging and dynamic problems than cooperation with peers, with management or subordinates, or with different business units. For example, technical experts collaborate with businessman; researchers setup a team to crack a cross-subject nut. If these examples are accurate and persuasive, it might be reasonable to conclude that cooperation is the solution to the complex and challenging problems.
To sum up, it may be true that honest, intelligence, a sense of humor, or other personality traits, are also important. However, cooperation is proved here to be overwhelmingly essential because of the conflict between the complex, challenging and dynamic problems confronted nowadays and the limited individual strength. |
