首先强烈感谢wycg and xizzhu,谢谢你们详细准确的回答,还有你们的好心(一定会有好报的!)这里还有几题,拿出来向大家请教一下:
Collagen, a strong rubbery protein, supports the ear flaps and the tip of the nose in humans.
答案为C,可是不明白,怎么改?请指教!the pattern is : the .... of a + noun OR the...of the + noun. by the way, through this sentence, we also need to know "humans" is correct. humans = human beings
The lower in a room, the more slowly our eyes focus.
A. the level of lighting B. light level
不明白B为何不对?"the + B", the light level would be correct.
A patrilineal extended family consists of a core group of males, their wives, and their unmarried daughters.
答案为B, 是否需要加上a (group of) ?yes, a group of is a phrase 用一个adj.(core) 代替a 不行吗?No,
Citrus fruits thrive in quiet very tropical climates.
答案C, 是否quiet very 重复?请问你们是根据什么判断的(语感吗?我可是感觉不出来呀,怎么办?)?考试时遇见这种题,如何应付?
'quite very tropical climates' is incorrect. this is a 词法题.
1). quite = very in American English. so, we cannot say "quite very". but we can say: "quite a/an + noun" for examples: quite a girl, quite a nice day.
2). "tropical " 是应该没有等级的 (non-gradable). "tropical " is non-gradable. "tropical climates" = (术语) 热带气候. so we cannot say: 'very tropical climates' or ' quite a tropical climate'
Some adjectives and adverbs refer to qualities which are gradable - we can have more or less of them. For example, people can be more or less interesting or old; jobs can be more or less difficult; cars can go more or less fast. Other adjectives and adverbs refer to non-gradable qualities - we do not usually say that things are more or less perfect, impossible , dead or "tropical".
3). quite very ====> humid/moist/dry or just simply crossing out "quite very". thus, the correct sentences are:
(A). Citrus fruits thrive in humid/dry tropical climates. (B). Citrus fruits thrive in tropical climates. (C). Citrus fruits thrive in moist, tropical climates (D). Citrus fruits thrive in Moist Tropical Climates.
i prefer ( B): it sounds like you're a scientist.
4). 考试时遇见这种题,如何应付?这题用排除知道选C if we don't how come "quite very" is wrong.
