My supervisor graduated from HKUST finance phd. His wife (maybe girlfriend at that time) was working in bulge bracket in Beijing when he was in HK and now he's teaching in Shanghai while his wife in working in HK.

Your relationship is gonna be broken by this or that if you're destined to  be apart. Your vision, on the other hand, will always be yours. You're a very caring one but I ain't sure you made the rite decision especially if you could go to a top10 in US as you claimed.

我申到了hkust phd finance，有hkpfs奖学金，没报欧美学校因为女朋友在香港。现在想想自己如果申请北美学校也极有可能有个top10的offer。phd是人生最后一个学位，却没能尽力，感觉有小小失落，求安慰。

Anyway HKUST is a good U. You could make achievements in academic fields no matter where you go. Living with your loved one and continuing doing research in your interested fields are great, you do not need regret.
Compared with those who will be separated for five years, I have to say you are a lucky guy.

失落因为你本能去美国top10而只去了香港？如果是这样，你明年申一次美国就可以了，看看到底能不能去top 10，能去和不能去的结果 都会让你不那么upset。如果能去top10，去不去是你的选择，至少你努力申请了。如果不能去top10，同理，你还是尽力申请了，总是惦记着没有的东西，当然会让你upset。
