As a construction material, bamboo is as strong as steel and sturdier than concrete. Moreover, in tropical areas bamboo is a much less expensive construction material than either steel or concrete and is always readily available. In tropical areas, therefore, building with bamboo makes better economic sense than building with steel or concrete, except where land values are high.

解释：land value high = multistory building

我认为这是一个题干以的assumption，疑惑为什么可以用”常识’来加上去？

因为如果可以乱加assumption的话：我可以说选项A：land value high = high possiblility of earthquake；选择A

希望有人可以解答我的疑惑（我一直以为不能乱加题干未给与的assumption，更何况这个跨度有点大：从选项B到结论还有一步推理需要走）

我觉得，虽然A说了竹子的不好，但是地震在地价高地价低的地方都有可能发生呀，所以这个并不能解释为什么只在地价高的地方竹子不适合。

虽然B也……不咋滴，但是也能圆吧

分享一点自己的想法：
Bamboo less expensive + strong as steel ...balabala —> 在热带（竹子可能比较多）的地方，拿来建房子很划算呀，EXCEPT 地价高的地方（用竹子建房不划算）
问：怎样explain 地价高的地方，用竹子作为建筑材料不划算了？
所以其实关注点应该在地价高上。
B选项：竹子不适合做多层建筑。 因为地价高的地方为了寻求economic sense最大化，要多建几层，如果用竹子的话，只能做一层（选项说不适合做多层）。其他材料却可以多做几层，因此选用传统的建筑材料做高楼，明显更满足高地价区域的资源利用（economic sense）。
A选项：有谈到竹子的优点，但是不遭受地震损失和问题着力点“land values”没有关系，所以可理解为无关选项。

有个小问题

看到大家对这里的理解是竹子制造的房子抗震能力差，可是我做题的时候想的是，竹子造的房子更不会遭受地震损失，也就是竹子的一个优点

能否请教一下这里怎么理解呢？有NN能帮忙解释一下吗？

很有启发！考试的时候能像你这样嗷嗷嗷和嘟嘟嘟一通就有答案真好！

本文在讲优点，然后一个except, 那么找出竹子的缺点就好了！

题目问的是exception noted above啊，肯定是在land value are high上做文章啊。我一开始也错了，因为没看清问的是什么，如果没问exception，感觉是可以选a的。
