generation 单复数问题

刚刚看lLSAT的RC发现了这个疑问，下面的原文供大家参考与探讨。
A recent generation of historians of science, far from portraying accepted scientific views as objectively accurate reflections of a natural world, explain the acceptance of such views in terms of the ideological biases of certain influential scientists or the institutional and rhetorical power such scientists wield.

想了半天，这个表达的意思是一代女人，那就是复数，女人的一代就是单数，显然应该是一代女人，所以我觉得是复数，不确定，待大牛解答，误导别人了请谅解

哦，我也查了一下，出现在gmat考试里应该就是单数了，因为真正主语是group，就要单纯看他的单复数

这个也要根据语境。。刚才搜了下，


A group of people is coming tonight. (the group as a unit is pursuing a goal)
A group of people are fighting in the street. (individuals within the group against each other)




不知道对不对。。NN们请鉴定！


但大多数的GMAT题里，a team of scientists，a group of geologists 都是用单数。。

根据语境来，如果强调一个整体，用单数，如果强调的是这么一代人一群人，用复数。。

比如：In China, the after-eighty generation are those who were born between the year 1980 to 1989 in urban areas of Mainland China.
