Researchers studying the Greenland ice shelf were shocked to discover the presence of water, colored pink, two miles under the ice. They concluded that the pink color was probably due to microorganisms. They also concluded that the water was likely due to a drastic increase in global warming, an increase that has been occurring for just a few hundred years. But these conclusions may not be correct. It is just as possible that the water has accumulated under the ice for thousands of years, since the ice could have acted as a perfect insulator to trap heat emanating from the earth. Moreover, ____.
Which of the following would, if true, most logically complete the argument?
A. it would take much longer than a few hundred years for such an ecosystem of microorganisms to establish itself
B. recent evidence suggests that the rate of global warming is increasing rapidly as a result of human activities
C. some scientists believe that the increase in global warming in the last few hundred years has been even greater than is generally acknowledged
D. similar areas of pink water have been found under ice shelves in Antarctica
E. scientists have in recent years discovered microorganisms in locations where they had believed no life could survive

1.Scientists have long taken a buried/crater-shaped geological formation off the coast of Australia to be the remnant of a volcano, but recent analysis of one of its lowest (and therefore oldest) layers of sediments found evidence of a meteor impact: meteor fragments, glass droplets of the sort formed during meteor impacts, and various chemical elements that most likely came from outer space. This shows that the crater was instead probably formed by a meteor impact.
Which of the following would it be most useful to determine in order to evaluate the argument above?
A. Whether the uppermost layer of the sediment covering the formation contains elements that most likely came from a meteor.
B. Whether the remnants of a meteor impact could have been carried to the location by ocean currents.
C. Whether lava flows contain organic material from die-offs of plant and animal life
D. Whether the composition of meteor fragments around the globe is relatively uniform
E. Whether there was more global volcanic activity at the time of this feature's formation than there is now

1. A
Researchers studying the Greenland ice shelf were shocked to discover the presence of water, colored pink, two miles under the ice --> They concluded that the pink color was probably due to microorganisms -->They also concluded that the water was likely due to a drastic increase in global warming, an increase that has been occurring for just a few hundred years
It is just as possible that the water has accumulated under the ice for thousands of years, since the ice could have acted as a perfect insulator to trap heat emanating from the earth
2.
Evaluation: D
P: recent analysis of one of its lowest (and therefore oldest) layers of sediments found evidence of a meteor impact: meteor fragments, glass droplets of the sort formed during meteor impacts, and various chemical elements that most likely came from outer space
C: crater was instead probably formed by a meteor impact.

B -- 流星撞击的残余物是否会被洋流带到该地。
Yes, 残余被带到这里, 坑还是火山形成的。
No,  残余是由流行撞击而留下的, 坑也是流星撞击形成的。

Day22
1. [Strength C2 / Weaken C1] A
C1 pink color<---microorganisms; water <---increase in global warming, an increase that has been occurring for just a few hundred years.
C2 C! is wrong!
P1 ice = insulator, trap heat emanating from the earth ---> water |ice|+++ for thousands of years + P2: ? A
[思路: 一个是排除全球变暖这个原因,另一个排除几百年这个说法]
2. [Evaluation] A ❌ B
P A=remnant of a volcano X; evidence of a meteor impact: meteor fragments&glass droplets&various chemical elements from outer space
C the crater was instead probably formed by a meteor impact.
