Day6 1- dinosaurs

ttl: 37'41

main idea:
Dinosaurs is not caused by vocano but caused by the impact of asteroid collision.

Structure:

a group of ppl认为dinosaurs的灭绝是由于vocano导致的

Most of people believed that there had been a collision between the earth and an asteroid, leading to the extinction of dinosaurs, which were not categorized as birds. However, the extinction could also caused by a burst of vocano.

During the vocano, some other animals also extincted. But during the collision, there remains other animal species.

H from Yale doubtd the hypotethis and analyzed the surroundings during the vocano, the leaves... found that...

and also, those poisoned gases brought by vocano already volatilized 2000 years before the dinosaurs' extinction.

In conclusion, the extinction was not likely caused by vocano but more likely caused by the effect of asteroid.

Identifying white supremacy as the most salient and pervasive force in Mississippi's history between Reconstruction and the New Deal, McMillen engages two related interpretive debates on the nature and evolution of race relations inthe South.
在identify sth的时候,MM提出了2个相关的解释性辩论on sth(sth也一样要清楚,辩论什么的,辩论南部种族关系的nature和evolution)。

MM的观点:white supremacy was the most....

接下来就是2个interpretive debates: first... second...

论证1:first:
First, he argues, the social relations of slavery gave way to an"informal code of exclusion and discrimination" (p. 5), which in turn evolved into legally mandated separation and disfranchisement. Like  Howard Rabinowitz, McMillensees little of the flickering light discernedby  C. Vann Woodward, no period offluidity preceding the codification of Jim Crow.' Indeed the very"confidence of the dominant race" (p. 9) in the universal recognitionof the imperatives of place made legislation unnecessary for twodecades.

论证2:second
Ironically, it was the perception of a threat to rigidity that  provoked the construction of a legal edifice to enforce an already familiar definition of place. Spatial contact was relatively insignificant; what mattered was hierarchy. Second, race relations were not functions of class relations;if  white supremacy was an ideology, itwas not merely an ideology. It was not placed in the service of class hegemony, but rather seems to have been an  ideal, even to the extent that one can speak of "white interests."McMillen's  Mississippi has been shapedlargely by continuity in the content and function  of white supremacy, an ideology closely tiedto the equally stable plantation  system, but with a logic and legitimacy of its own. What changes are the  strategies adopted by black Mississippians in"their struggles to achieve autonomy and full citizenship" (p. xiii).

If the continuity ofwhite supremacy provides the context of the dark journey through the age of Jim Crow, the shiftingresponses to oppression define the stages of that journey. For two decades after"Redemption," leadership continued to rest in the hands of Reconstruction politicians, many of whom had held office. Concerned less about segregation than inequality, they directly―and unsuccessfully―challenged the emerginglegal structure andthe  increasingly rigid definitions ofplace. Their successors accepted Jim Crow and subordination as inevitable, but not as either natural or legitimate. The  alternative to accommodation, in theeyes of Isaiah Montgomery and Mississippi's disciples of Booker T. Washington, was "unrestrainedracial conflict  they would surelylose" (p. 288). The final stage of the journey, initiated by the Great Migration duringWorld War I and symbolized by the "New Negro"  was characterized by pragmatic opportunism.Still disinclined toward militant protest,Mississippi's black leadership seized upon the Great Migration as a political lever, whose forcedrew upon the South's dependence on black  labor. The distinctions between stages one and two seem blurred by overlapping leadership and a continuedconservative bent. More emblematic of a third stage, I suspect, are the Great Migration itself―the refusal ofthousands  of black Mississippians toaccept the places available in the Jim Crow South―and the"surprising number" who joined Mississippi chapters of the UniversalNegro Improvement Association.

Main idea:
The pandemic gives Chinese djs a chance to shine.
2 effects from the pandemic could prove.

Dai Zhao, a nightclub in Beijing, is full of people who enjoy in music, during the pandemic, they don't allow anyone but who's personal safety code is green. However, every night, there will be more than 200 ppl in the club so that many clubs shut down this year until August.

One of the effects from the pandemic is that people are locked for too long time so that nightclubs are prosperous. Michael, the DJ from another nightclub Dada, said the crowd showed up in the nightclub is as large as before the pandemic.

The other of the effect is that the culture of nightclub spread beyond original cities: Beijing, shanghai and sichuan.
Many nightclubs shut down because of the covid-19, soneone, the dj of xxx, shut down the club in shanghai and went his hometown - xiamen, the west of shanghai, and achieved, Michael also opened a new club in sichuan.

The abrupt of Chinese clubs give chances to chinese djs to shine. A chinese dj held a music festival this year and gathered more than 3000 ppl there. But some commented: many of chinese djs are proficient in djing but they don't get the culture of electric music. They wish the broad of electric music could engage more foreign djs.

But it's all about music, nonetheless, one of the followers attending music festival said that i couldn't even see the stage among the crowd, but it's enough to have music there, it's all what we need.

Yet many electronic-music clubs have weathered the disruption, in part because punters freed from lockdown have flocked back to them.

Now they have no choice but to give locals a chance to shine.
I don't really like the sentence. 如果你永远不给新人机会,那么你永远需要借助别人的力量,everyone needs opportunities even if they are good enough. In conclusion, i don't like the word: have not choice but to.

Given the current policy climate and controversy around surrogacy, it’s crucial that public discussion of this issue includes the fullest range of perspectives. As well as hearing moving stories from intended parents about how surrogacy enabled them to overcome biological or social infertility to realise their dreams of becoming parents, we also need to hear from a range of surrogate mothers. That includes those whose experiences have not been so rosy, and who instead encountered challenging power imbalances between themselves and the intended parents, or who felt that their human rights were subtly or overtly undermined during their pregnancy or birth, or who suffered unexpected physical or emotional repercussions. There are two sides to this story, and both must be told.
