哪几家top school最受管理咨询公司青睐??

我正在为选校发愁,读MBA主要是想毕业后进管理咨询,所以想选这方面强的。经过一轮的调查和参观,已经定了三所:INSEAD, Wharton和Tuck.

and Insead,    Insead graduates are very competitive for MC positions.

INSEAD is already among the 3 schools I intent to apply.  Right now, I am trying to figure out adding which school to the mix.  There are three schools on the top of my list: Ross, Fuqua and Yale.  I'm just not sure which one should I pick.

Maybe I'll just go with Fuqua, and using it as a 'safty' school.  According to the 2007 numbers, Fuqua does have a 36% acceptance rate, which was considerably higher than Ross and Yale.

Favored by MC firms in the following order:

Strategy: Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg

Finance: Wharton, Columbia, Chicago

Technology: MIT, Haas, Tepper

Thanks Pathseeker!

May I ask what's the source of your statement?

What do you know about Tuck and Fuqua?

Acctually I don't fully understand you.  You mean the three are already in your mix or you intend to add one of the three to your mix?

I gathered the lists from my conversations with recruiting staff of top 3 MCs: McKinsey, BCG adn Bain.

Tuck MBA offers a very solid general management curriculum and its graduates have been heavily recruited by top MCs. However, the school itself is a joke among people here in the U.S. because of its in-the-middle-of-nowhere location. There's almost no life in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Fuqua is no where near being a top business school despite the fact that John Mack, Chairman & CEO of Morgan Stanley, attended the school as an undergraduate. The cheating scandal last year watered down the school's reputation and it's for time to redeem.

To 静心

As I mentioned in my initial message, I have made up my mind to apply for three schools - INSEAD, Wharton and Tuck.  I was looking for advices on my #4 and maybe #5 picks.

As a matter of fact, INSEAD might very well be my #1 choice even if I do receive an offer from Wharton (that would be the best case scenario).  I love the international mix and the fact that INSEAD is only a 10 months program really is attractive to me.  The direct and opportunity costs can be greatly reduced, comparing to a 2 yr program.

Sorry for the confusion, yes I totally agree with you, INSEAD is a very good choice.

That's great!  First hand information is the most reliable.

I actually took a roadtrip in July and visited Dartmouth at Hanover.  I find the location and environment of the school rather refreshing.  Yes, it IS in the middle of the woods, but the campus is very clean and beautiful.  It is extremely peacful and quite (especially in July, when school is out).  I quite like that.  It's only few hours away from Boston.  But then again, yes it's not for everyone.  Many people believe location is espeically very important to business schools.

Thanks for reminding me of the scandal at Duke.  I almost forgot about it.  Yes, it would definitely hurt its reputation.  I intented to use Fuqua as my safety school.  Now I have to rethink my strategy and use Ivey as my safety.

To fill my #3 spot and bump Tuck to #4, I think I will go with Kellogg.  I just found out they have an one year program which I might very well be qualified for.  I already have a business degree, spend two years at biz school might be an overkill.

Yale is not really strong in MC... correct me if I am wrong.

The higher the school ranks, the better chance you have for interview.  But once you get interview, the school name doesn't matter at all.  So, rather focusing on picking which school has higher MC placement, I'd recommend you to focus on schools that provide solid general management programs.

And in general, HBS, Ross, Tuck, Darden, Duke are more of "general management" schools.
