我不理解的是：选D的话，则句子的结构是：
The lawyer for the defense charged that she suspected the police (of having) illegally taped her confidential conversations with her client (and then of using) the information they had obtained to find evidence that would support their murder charges.
逻辑意思好象不通啊？
律师怀疑警察（X），接着又怀疑警察（Y）

如果选A的话，可以将used看作与taped并列，逻辑不是更通顺吗：
律师怀疑警察（偷录他们的机密谈话，并利用这一信息去寻找有罪指控的证据）。

但这个答案是ETS给的，没有问题。难道ETS可以随心所欲地给答案吗？还是有何深奥之玄机？

这一题我当时的理解是因为有了先后顺序
也就说，先tape然后use，所以前面用了having taped，后面仅仅是using。
不晓得对gemj大哥有没有帮助

但如果理解为我说的这种结构：
律师怀疑警察（偷录他们的机密谈话，并利用这一信息去寻找有罪指控的证据）。
用AND来连结两个动作，也同样能表达动作的先后顺序啊？
另外，你能解释一下为何是二次怀疑，而不是一次怀疑一件事情呢？

gemj,这题我也选了A，也错了。后来想了想：这题主要是考平行。事情没iselibra说得那么复杂。

A：律师怀疑警察。。。，然后用获取的证据。。。。(后半句的主语是律师)

D。律师怀疑警察。。。，还怀疑警察用获取的证据来。。。。(用获取的证据的主语是警察)

这就区别。A也把意思搞错了。主要是平行错，导致意思错。

gemj 这里解题的关键还是ETS惯用的歧义啊

如果是A use与tape并列变成of having illegally used 但是实际上警察使用information是不犯法的（后面的寻找证据也是不犯法的）只是tape（对谈话录音）是illegal的 Got it?

ETS能考多复杂的事啊，不可能吧。不要把问题越想越玄。什么一次怀疑，二次怀疑的？？？还是从基本的语法点入手，在实在难以比出高下时，再用逻辑意思来确认。

不同意如果是平行的话也可以是对警察的行为使用平行结构啊

律师怀疑警察对谈话录音（the police tape）怀疑警察用获取的信息寻找证据（the police use and find）这样也复合语法平行所以我觉得还是歧义。

所以如果这里想要表达information的来源是非法的话应该是and then used the information they had illegally obtained 而不是illegally used the information they had obtained 语序不同句意有区别。

The lawyer for the defense charged that she suspected the police of having illegally used the information obtained to find evidence supporting their murder charges.
这恐怕意思就不对了巴。
btw，我觉得gemj水平太高，思考问题过于复杂，尽想些俺们想都想不到的方面，呵呵。
