一道语法题! 求助!! A Group of Students Were Asked 还是说 A Group of Students Was Asked 呢

应该说 A Group of Students Were Asked 还是说 A Group of Students Was Asked 呢? 在没看XDF之前, LZ很确定是第一种, 而且根据GOOGLE检索数量也可以看出肯定是第一种, 但现在不确定了, 请牛人指点!! 谢谢!

A OF B 核心词应该是A 吧唔觉得是第二个

“嗯，这确实是american english写作的原则。
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/599/01/ 第十条。
搜索了一下OG10-12，官方材料没有明确说明过这类名词后面是否单复数都可以，只是有题目出现正确答案是用了单数，所以就暂时接受GMAT里面都是视这类名词为collective noun，后面要用单数的。”

A set of books is introduced.... OR a set of books are Introduced....

谢谢！http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/599/01/ 第十条和这个情况貌似有些区别，没有后边有of然后复数名次什么的．为什么native speakers都认为是应该是复数，不解中
