Some species of Arctic birds are threatened by recent sharp increases in the population of snow geese, which breed in the Arctic and are displacing birds of less vigorous species. Although snow geese are a popular quarry for hunters in the southern regions where they winter, the hunting season ends if and when hunting has reduced the population by five percent, according to official estimates. Clearly, dropping this restriction would allow the other species to recover.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the argument?

A.   Hunting limits for snow geese were imposed many years ago in response to a sharp decline in the population of snow geese.

答案是B

这道题是不是在讲，SG影响了其他物种，hunt可以减少SG，但是国家又有一种规定：只能杀5%的SG，所以得出结论，取消规定（也就是杀更多的SG）其他物种才能幸存。
要削弱，废除了规定就能让其他物种幸存。

我的理解有误吗？？？？？？

为什么是B呢？B只是说国家的管制使得hunt的时间缩短了，则一事实已经持续很多年了。和削弱有什么关系？？？

还是有误我理解啊？求赐教！！！

Answer B means that even if you drop the restriction (and let hunter to shoot at will as an extreme), there won't be any real effect on reducing the number of geese killed. Why? Because for many, many years hunters have spent the whole hunting season shooting geese without reaching the magic number of killing even 5% of the geese!

"Closed earlier than the scheduled date" = hunting has reduced the geese population by five percent before reaching the last day of the hunting season

B. It has been many years since the restriction led to the hunting season for snow geese being closed earlier than the scheduled date.

而这个政策的效果已持续多年. 说明restriction与sharp increses之间并无因果关系。选B，削弱

我觉得你可能是B选项没读明白：It has been many years since...而不是It has been many years that...
如果是since，B的意思就是：自打最后一次杀鹅杀到5%已经很久了，即：这个restriction其实没什么用，这么让你们杀都杀不到数，就算我把这restriction drop了意义也不大。

从你直观的翻译来看，应该是按that来翻译的，如果是按照that来翻译的话就是连续好几年都是杀鹅提前结束了。这样反倒成了支持。

多注意句子的细节，少安毋躁～

It is better to think in English instead of translating the stimulus into Chinese and then analyzing the Chinese version in your head. This practice might minimize the chance of mis-interpretation. Take the definition of "side" for a squre and a cubic for example . . .
