If you read carefully, you would notice a scope shift from "the amount of residual ash" to "the number of truck loads." For the conclusion to hold, D has to be true, since it connects "amount of ash" to "truckload."

刚弄懂的一题

从别人处看来的，牛人的解释很精辟

总量(the amount of residual ash)=the number of turckload * residual per truckloads

也就是：

总量减少需要：

1. 拉去倒垃圾的车次减少 (去年100趟，今年50趟)
2.每辆车的垃圾烧出来的垃圾灰不能去去年多 (因为即使车次少了，你每辆车拉的多了，也会多)

一共产生多少垃圾灰=拉了多少趟车*一趟车产生的垃圾灰

Could you further explain og's explanation of option A please? I could't understand its explanation.

"This merely indicates that no further reduction of ash through recyclingcould be achieved this year; it indicates nothing about how much the ash willbe reduced."

Option A: This year, no materials that city services could separate for recycling will be incinerated.

And option C's og explanation as well:
"Since no information is provided about how much, if any, recyclablematerials were removed from the refuse last year, this does not a?ect the reasoning."

Isn't it clear that no recyclable materials were removed from the refuse last year as inferred from "Last year all refuse collected...was incinerated"? Then why does the explanation mention "since no information is provided about how much, if any, recyclable materials were removed from the refuse last year"?

Option C: Refuse collected by city services will contain a larger proportion ofrecyclable materials this year than it did last year.

这题这样想就简单了，
题目说的是：要用回收垃圾来减少垃圾灰，“回收垃圾”是一个事实，事实承认即可，不需要再去解释或者证明，所以只需证明“垃圾灰减少”就行了。
C选项在解释一个事实，所以无用。
D选项，因为5个答案中只有D说的是和垃圾灰减少有关，所以D对。
特别是关于上面那个朋友的“总量=单量x数量”的公式请大家先不必考虑（因为想的越多可能离题目所给信息越远，而且还影响速度和正常思路，能用更直接的方法选出就直接选）
