OG17 Verbal 第158题,个人不知道为什么感觉难度挺大的,想请教各位高手的意见:
Most scholars agree thatKing Alfred (A.D 849 - 899) personally translated a number of Latin texts intoOld English. One historian contends that Alfred also personally penned his ownlaw code, arguing that the numerous differences between the language of the lawcode and Alfred's translation of Latin texts are overweighed by the even morenumerous similarities. Linguistic similarities, however, are what one expectsin texts from the same language, the same time, and the same region. Apart fromAlfred's surviving translation and law code, there are only two other extantworks from the same dialect and milieu, so it is risky to assume here thatlinguistic similarities point to common authorship. (OG17 V – Q158)
The passage above proceeds by:
(A) Providing examples that underscore another argument'sconclusion.
(B) questioning the plausibility of an assumption on whichanother argument depends.
(c) showing that a principle if generally applied would haveanomalous consequences.
(D) showing that the premises of another argument are mutuallyinconsistent.
(E) using argument by analogy to undermine a principle implicitin another argument.
OA is B.
A: underscore another argument's conclusion 应该没有问题,错应该在providing examples。One historian contends...是most scholars agree that King Alfred translated the Latin texts的例子,但是there are only two other extant works......不是author为了证明自己观点而举的例子么?
B: 感觉别的选项都在谈作者展开文章的具体手法,这个选项比较抽象。 要怎么看待作者question the assumption of another argument的手法呢? by providing evidence that the similarities exisit between Latin text and law code are not unique among texts from the same language, the same time, and the same region?
E:analogy应该是错的,原文并没有给出一个类比的情况。undermine a principle implicit in another argument呢?
提前谢谢各位指教。
