这题答案是D，这个句子我不懂什么意思也不知道第一个空怎么选的。最后的they指的是什么啊？
求教了！！

我不是高手也来跟LZ探讨下哈~
我感觉这题应该是先选出第二空再确定第一空，根据这句子的走向，先前说fail to support XX, 接着说instead, 第二空应该是跟第一空之前的'deliberate fraud' 相对应，这样一来A和D都符合；
再看第一空，fail to support, 可以确定是填positive的词，这就排除A选项，剩D。

上半句his deliberate fraud这个特征词是第二空格的同义词，是第一空格的反义词。
意思：证据揭示了他的故意欺骗的行为，他在这些证据面前还表现得镇定自若显得他的本质很正直，但是他的表现没能够使他的支持者相信；相反，却暴露出了一种supporter们从没有猜想过的欺骗的天赋。
