As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
Explosive development of technology and science has been made during the past one hundred years or so. When it comes to the daily lives of people in the world, no one could deny that we rely more and more on technology to solve problems. You may wonder, will our ability to think for ourselves deteriorate? Admittedly, computer and automatic machine give us so much help to finish jobs that are very challengeable to human beings such as mathematic calculation and information memory. However, as a whole effect in general, technology has in fact, tend to release people from tedious physical work and allow humans to spend more time and energy on spiritual activities, which to large extent inspires peoples' passion of creation. So the ability of humans to think for themselves will not deteriorate.
Actually, considerable conveniences have been made by technology in all aspects of our daily life, with the help of which we can lead a simple life without boring thinking. As is known to all, mobile phones increasingly become smarter and we just need to tell it our friend's name when dialing, due to which there is no need to remember mobile phone number of each friend. Consider, for example, a large number of financial reports generated by companies all around world can not be done without the help of computers and professional software. Besides, with the advanced traffic controller of modern cities including cameras, signal lights and even satellites in the space, polices can monitor and control the city traffic just using a computer easily and effectively. All the above shows evidences that technology contributes so much to human society that in a variety of areas a lot of time and resource have been saved.
However, does it really mean that we have nothing to think about with the aid of technology. Obviously, the answer is absolutely not. As a matter of fact, the development and application of technology has not resulted in deterioration of independent thinking ability of human beings. To the opposite direction, the tasks and requirements for human beings to think become much more critical and challengeable. On the one hand, people are no longer troubled by tedious works such as simple digital calculation, thus much more energy could be spend on creative activities and improvement of existing tools and theories. Just consider the continuous improvement of vehicles, for example, even though there are a large number of design software helping us to finish this work, the most complex and creative part can only be done by humans with our own brains, which reveals great thinking ability of humans. On the other hand, with the emergence of new disciplines such as compounded material technology, a lot of new fields are found that need humans' exploration and thinking. No one can deny that the thinking ability of humans is enhanced comparing to the previous.
In sum, even though that people rely more and more on technology, yet only help us to spend more time on creative activities and enable us to pursue higher level spiritual life such as art. Actually, people should learn how to make use of technology. |
