At the expend of people’s basic needs , the strategy for more funding for the arts will surely fly in the face of the general welfare in public. How can we except hungry or unemployed people to indulge themselves in the beauty of arts ? From my point of view, though arts play a far-reaching significance to our spiritual improvement , we should reduce but not suspend government funding for arts when people’s basic needs are more urgent.
First of all, the reason that people’s basic needs are urgently required is generally correct when we consider the government funding for arts. Since arts seems more likely as high spiritual needs for human who takes up just a small part of celebrities in our society , basic needs for human seems to bring much more effect respectively for those who are struggling for their basic problems such as eating ,housing and wearing. China with the largest population in the world is a typical case in point. Were China government pouring more and more money into arts improvement , can most of its hungry people afford to take tickets to watch movies or visit the museum ? Were most of the people left poverty , can the rewarding from arts funding worth its cost? Therefore, it’s cruel to funding the arts while putting a blind eye to people’s urgent and basic need .
On the other hand, it’s still not wise to suspend all the government funding for arts for the chief reason that arts not only represent the spiritual situation of people in the new age but also display our excellent culture to the world and to the future decedents. As our society moves faster and faster in every passing day, more emphasis should be placed on our spiritual improvement when our society keeps flourishing. Through the edification of arts, people can get into speculation about the life in the new age and inspire innovation to distinguish themselves in new signs through arts, thus propelling arts in a benign circulation .Moreover, as a essential part of national culture, art form is the significant way to present our unique national spirit to the world . By no means can it be denied that arts can act like a mirror to reflect our life and religion . Therefore, to record our unique trace in history , it’s of vital important to support arts in any time of the history .
To sum up, though it may seem to be crucial to funding arts while leaving the people suffering from the lack of basic needs, hardly can we suspend the funding of arts cursorily . Only when we cherish the spiritual treasure that arts bring to us , can we indentify ourselves as a unique nation in the new age and thrive our national culture in the future. |
