According to some analysts, the gains in the stock market reflect growing confidence that the economy will avoid the recession that many had feared earlier in the year and instead come in for a "soft landing" followed by gradual increase in the business activity.

A. that the economy will avoid the recession that many had feared earlier in the year and instead come

B. in the economy to avoid the recession , what many feared earlier in the year, rather to come

C. in the economy's ability to avoid the recession, something earlier in the year many had feared,and instead to come

D. in the economy to avoid the recession many were fearing earlier in the year, and rather to come

E. that he economy will avoid the recession that was feared earlier this year by many with it instead coming

恩，有两个疑惑：
D选项的 to avoid and to come 平行，这样后半句会不完整吗？ and后面不一定是完整句呀~OG解释为什么说后半句不完整呢？

“recession （that）many were fearing earlier in the year ”中的that为什么不可省呢？不是像the book (that) I bought 中的一样吗，that作为后面从句中谓语的宾语？

这道题应该选A。
D的错误有两处：还原D选项以后就是这样：the gains reflect the confidence in the economy to avoid the recession many were fearing earlier , and (the gains reflect the confidence in the economy）rather to come in for a "soft landing" followed by gradual increase in the business activity.
因为and rather to come 在语法上只能和to avoid the recession平行。
错误1：to do sth.表示动作的目的，the ecomomy to avoid the recession这个表达是不好的，原句想表达的是一种将来的可能性，所以A中reflect the confidence that the economy will（将会）avoid the recession这个表达更好。同样，the economy rather to come in也是不好的，原句也是想表达一种可能性，所以A中and（the economy will ) instead come in for a "soft landing".....)这个表达更好。
你说的“recession （that）many were fearing earlier in the year ”这个that是可以省的，D的错误不在于省不省that，在于修饰成分的构造。
