Two water pumps, working simultaneously at their respective constant rates, took exactly 4 hours to fill a certain swimming pool.If the constant rate of one pump was 1.5 times the constant rate of the other, how many hours would it have taken the faster pump to fill the pool if it had worked alone at its constant rate?

(A) 5

(B) 16/3
(C) 11/2
(D) 6

(E) 20/3

设快的2x 天和慢的 3x天，解出来X 不要忘记乘以2 就是快的的时间。

S=4Y (S为泳池总量，Y为同时工作的效率)
Y=1.5p+p （p为效率较低的水泵的效率）
得p=0.4Y

解： S/1.5p=40/6=20/3

我设快的为X。。慢的为2/3x..
然后1/x+1/2/3X=4
解得X=5/8啊
那么H=1/5/8=8/5啊

不明白哪里错了啊

S --- volume of the swimming pool.
v1 --- rate of the faster pump
v2 --- rate of the other
v2=(2/3)*v1
4=S/(v1+v2)=(3/5)*(S/v1)

S/v1=4*(5/3)=20/3

设快的要x小时，那么慢的就是要1.5x小时完成。则1/(1/x+1/1.5x)=4，解之，得答案~
