16,Prolonged and unseasonable frosts produce frost rings in deciduous trees, which grow in moderate climats. Frost rings do not appear in any of the fossilized decidusous trees that have been found in Antarctica. Hence, it is unlikely that such frosts occurred in Antarctica at the time the fossilized trees lived.

Assumption:

C.The process of fossilization does not completely obscure frost rings in deciduous trees.

请问这题的推理过程是怎么回事?C为什么是假设啊?

我看了书的解释,也不明白.谢谢.

首先大前提是多雾在落叶树上造成雾线，小前提是南极洲落叶树化石中没有发现雾线，结论是那时南极没有雾。但没有发现有两中可能，一是压根儿就没有，一是原来有，后来给侵蚀了。C就是说在形成化石的过程中雾线没有被销蚀掉。这就保证了小前提的正确和充分，所以是一个必要的假设。

同意cranberry. 这道题从意思和逻辑上很清楚, 有frost就有frost ring, 现在没有frost ring就推出没有frost. 逻辑上看上去很正确, 但是要假设的是:确实没有frost ring, 而不是本来有后来又不见了. 这也是GMAT CR的一个典型的出题思路.
